Style, not quality — neither end of any axis is better. Career-long, ranked against each season's field. Covers every referee with 15+ Premier League matches; below that a style estimate is noise, not a trait.

not a ranking. The top few are not separable from each other: the gaps between them are smaller than

Style, not quality. Neither end of any axis is better — a strict referee isn't worse than a lenient one, just different. The spread is genuinely tight: referees are more alike than the discourse suggests, so even the extremes here are close in absolute terms. Separate from the fairness grade.
